About us

Brooklyn Bio was born out of a team that won top prizes over several years at the iGEM competition. Together we are a group of scientists and engineers with expertise in wetware, hardware, software, and data. We are passionate about molecular biology and its scientific applications. Biotech is entering new horizons and we are excited to work towards responsibly shaping its future.

We are self-funded in order to maintain our independence and choose our research focus. We want to work with people doing great science in all fields. We are here to help you with your research design and execution.

Julie Wolf, Ph.D

Scientific Director
Dr. Wolf earned her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer Biology, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Her research focused on medical mycology and infectious disease, using biochemical, immunological, and genetics approaches to better understand fungal pathogenesis. She specializes in genetic screens to identify important genes and gene regions, fluorescence and electron microscopy, and generation of molecular biology-based tools.

David Sanderson

Director of Operations
David attended the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and now manage the day to day operations of Brooklyn Bio. (so I do more or less everything that does not involve lab work).

Will Shindel

Co-founder
Will began his career in biology by investigating the role of the DNA binding protein CTCF in genome organization in Drosophila melanogaster. After completing his undergraduate thesis he joined a contract research organization and carried out a number of molecular assays at client request. Eventually, Will transitioned into the pharmaceutical industry, where he practiced mammalian tissue culture and conducted virology and qPCR-based vaccine potency studies using high throughput liquid handling automation.

Blacki Migliozzi

Data Scientist
Blacki Migliozzi earned his B.S. in discrete math from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2010 and a M.S. in human computer interaction from Georgia Tech in 2012. His areas of expertise include using neural nets to parse large datasets, data visualization, and machine learning. He has worked for Bloomberg Research as well as the New York Times. Blacki was awarded the top Malofiej prize for his work “What’s Really Warming the World” that he created with Eric Roston for Bloomberg Business.
